ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The National Assembly was informed on Tuesday that the Rawalpindi-Islamabad Metro Bus Project completed at a cost of Rs44 billion will start functioning by the end of May.

   

This was stated by the Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Shaikh Aftab Ahmad while responding to a call attention notice moved by Dr Azra Fazal Pechuho and others.

The minister said that the project would basically facilitate poor masses and about 153,000 people will travel through Metro buses daily.

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif performed the ground-breaking ceremony of the Rawalpindi-Islamabad Metro Bus Service Project in Rawalpindi in March last year with the objective of providing an international standard mass transit system to facilitate the citizens of twin cities.

The track of Metro Bus Service starts from Flashman Hotel Chowk on Murree Road and ends at Pak Secretariat, covering a total distance of 22.6 kilometers via Murree Road, Faizabad Rawalpindi, IJP Road, 9th Avenue and Jinnah Avenue (Blue Area).

A total of 24 modern Metro Bus Service stations for the passengers are being built on the whole track out of which 10 are on Murree Road while the remaining are in Islamabad.

Initially, 60 buses will run on Metro Bus track from Rawalpindi to Islamabad.
