Pakistan supports for peaceful democratic transition in Afghanistan: Sartaj AzizISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The prime minister’s adviser on national security and foreign affairs Sartaj Aziz on Wednesday underscored Pakistan’s support for a peaceful democratic transition in Afghanistan.

In a meeting with the UN secretary general’s special representative for Afghanistan Jan Kubis who called on him in Islamabad and exchanged views on Afghanistan and regional processes, the adviser emphasized Pakistan’s policy of non-interference and reiterated that a peaceful, stable and united Afghanistan was in Pakistan’s vital interest.

   

The adviser also stressed the importance of deeper engagement of the United Nations and the international community in the reconstruction and economic development of Afghanistan.

Jan Kubis updated the adviser on the UN’s role with regard to the electoral process and political transition.

The UN secretary general’s special representative for Afghanistan also called on the foreign secretary Aizaz Ahmad Chaudhry and exchanged views on Afghanistan and regional processes.
