ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The federal government is reportedly mulling import of 60 lac tonne Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) from Italy and France annually.

Sources privy to the petroleum ministry said that the government was in talks with Italian ENI and a French company in the matter.

The imported LNG will not cost more than 13.37 percent of brent oil’s price.

It should be noted here that Qatar is exporting 300 million cubic ft LNG per day to Pakistan.

The government is making efforts and entering accords with different countries to curb the prevailing energy crisis.

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has asserted at least a dozen times that power outages would end by 2018, which is the last year of his government in present tenure.

Central Asia-South Asia-1000 project, also known as CASA-1000 was inaugurated in this regard by Nawaz Sharif among leaders of Afghanistan, Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan earlier this month.

The transmission line will run from Tajikistan, pass through Afghanistan and end in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa s Peshawar.
